Spent the weekend in Chicago with my best friend. I’ve known Joe since I was a teenager. I had written a short piece for a local Hardcore zine called I Stand Alone and Joe read it and wrote me a letter. I have the letter framed hanging in my bedroom.

The top blurry picture is the only one I took of him for some reason, cooking breakfast for us one morning, which was super sweet.

The bottom picture I took while I was sitting in the passenger seat of his car while he was running an errand. He had sent a text to me a number of months ago of a mix cd I made for him when I was a teenager. It is stored in the console of his car, although I’m guessing he doesn’t listen to it much as he’s a Judge fan and I put a Hepcat song on the mix and things of that nature….. it’s nice that he keeps it with him for whatever reason.

I wanted to look at the track listing and this was inside. Gel pens? GOD, I really was a teenage girl at some point.

The cover of the mix, as you can see on the backside of the white paper that is stamped with “I Love you!” is a drawing of am Amtrak train that I did with a pen.

We both used to take the train to either visit Chicago or Louisville to see each other.

If he sees this, he’ll probably ask me to take it down but I don’t really care, our friendship is a super precious thing to me.

I think he’ll probably be my only close life long friend. Can’t take that for granted and not share stories like this.

Spent the weekend in Chicago with my BFF. Crucial hang out, is that what the kids still call it?

Today I turn 34. I didn’t get a new bike, yet, this year and I’m not surrounded by friends, we’re all grown up now. Still fighting off a cold, but today is going to be a good day!

He served in the U.S Army and wore an Armored Division Hell On Wheels patch when he was stationed in Germany in the 70’s, if what my mom has told me is correct. I have the patch from one of his uniforms that I keep. My dad was also the first person I knew that had visible tattoos. Because of him, to me, tattoos were always acceptable and not “trashy” or an indicator of a person being a criminal, or sketchy, or anything other than an outstanding human being. One of his tattoos was a snake, very much like this one in shape, on his right forearm, wrapping around his wrist and ending with the open mouth of the snake on his hand on the meaty part where his thumb and pointer finger met at the palm. The tattoo is a modified version of the patch, without the cannon and tank treads, with an updated, yet traditional, version of the snake on my forearm close to my elbow. I’m extremely happy with it. The skull with the raccoon hat is something Dennis was drawing for his wife when I arrived at the shop. He’s a sweet dude, and his tattooing feels like fluffy puppy licks.

Day off of work today. Didn’t get on the bicycle, took a motorcycle ride instead to get bagels with Bill. Beautiful day.

On this day, the man on the far left, my friend and former music store co-worker, Darryl Johnson, is at Vanderbilt for brain surgery to remove a tumor. Medicine and lifestyle changes didn’t work, this was the final option. He was in good spirits and healthy as a horse otherwise, the last time I saw him. I can’t wait until he is all healed up so we can hit up spin class together.

Looking through old pictures on this MAC I haven’t tried to use since I had a temper tantrum and stomped on it, I find pictures from last Xmas. So what if I’m in my 30’s.  Every time I see a picture of me with holes in the crotch of my jeans I know that I was riding a lot!
