These box-section tubular rims are about as classic as the sport itself. These, mated to a stout pair of hubs in a high-spoke count setup are about as vintage and classic as you can get. These are still used by the pros, and to that effect have quite a cachet in the eyes of experienced cyclists. While they are not extremely light or aerodynamic, the ride quality of the box-section rim is undisputed. A pair of these wheels, properly built, will last you thousands and thousands of miles of comfort and enjoyment.
For me, the proper build would be either (silver) Campagnolo Record hubs with silver Sapim Race double-butted spokes, or some silver chris kings with silver spokes, chiefly because I prefer the appearance of silver spokes. They shine in the sunlight with a nice brilliance.
