Another cyclist, using the marked share lane on a four lane bridge with a 25 to 35 MPH speed limit, was struck by a vehicle on the Clark Memorial Bridge today in the middle of the day. Photo from the Courier Journal.
No word on if the driver was arrested/ticketed, but the cyclist will be okay.  I always ride on the sidewalk on this bridge but it’s ridiculously difficult given the walking/runner/baby stroller traffic on the narrow sidewalks. It’s safer for everyone else for cyclists to use the marked bike lane…. but a lot of us don’t because of how often cyclist are hit by drivers speeding (when I’m driving I’m often passed by people doing at least 50 if not 60 when the signs are clearly marked 35 and sometimes 25 when work is being done on the bridge). The bridge is a mile long and links Louisville Kentucky with Southern Indiana. There are two lanes going in each direction and a narrow sidewalk on either side. There is a bike lane going both ways that is actually a “Shared lane” with white markers.

A number of the bikes that I re-blog, while the bike itself is a pleasure to look at, are more about the background.

Great new shirt from the Pedal Pushers Club. Do you ever find those bike related groups that make great shirts frequently and you wish you had time for a 2nd job so you could just buy them all?

My pal Travis has had this Masi frame for a while, this was the last thing his mother bought for him before she was murdered. He was working at Clarksville Schwinn at the time before he was a police officer. He built this up and this is what he rode the majority of the times we went out riding.

Every ride I always said “You should sell that frame to me”.  I had no idea the sentimental attachment to it at the time.

Here recently he became obsessed with the Star Wars Lego sets that have been released lately, I know, haha, what a nerd.

He told me he was looking into selling a few bikes since, with his job at the department, he doesn’t have much time to ride. I offered to buy it and told him that if was going to sell it he might as well it to a friend.

I went over to his place to pick the bike up and that’s when he told me about his mother buying it for him. I let him know that if he ever wanted to ride it, or if he ever even just wanted it back, it was his.

It’s a welcome addition to my bike family, especially  since it has such emotional ties to a good friend of mine.

Deciding on a fork for my Surly build I am having a hard time, at first I wanted to stay rigid but as I see myself wanting to buy yet another bike down the road for riding trails I began looking at non-rigid forks. Because I know nothing about fork technology or even what the term “Free ride” really means, I find myself being drawn to things because of the pretty colors, hence the Argyle RCT fork. I mean, it’s neon green. I searched for photos of users with the fork to see what they were riding with it, and I came across this picture, which is stunning and tells me even though it looks cool, it’s probably too much fork for me. haha
